ABOUT ZONTA CLUB IN GENEVA

Zonta International is a leading global organization of individuals working together to build a better world for women and girls.  ” Zonta” is derived from a Lakota-Sioux Indian word meaning “honest and trustworthy”.

Zonta International was established in 1919 in Buffalo, New York and now has more than 27,000 members in 1,133 clubs in 62 countries. Clubs are nonpartisan and nonsectarian. Zonta Club of Geneva is part of Zonta International District 4, Area 4 (refer to www.zontadistrict4.org).

Zonta Club of Geneva has organized efforts as varied as women’s economic self-sufficiency, legal equality, access to education and health, and eradicating violence since 1929. Through community service projects and fundraising, the club has been proud supporters of organizations such as Safe Harbors, Family Counseling Service of the Finger Lakes, Boys and Girls Club of Geneva, and Literacy Volunteers. The club annually awards scholarships to graduating high school girls. The club has assembled birthing kits and reusable, washable menstrual management kits for developing countries and made loans to women in remote areas of the world through KIVA to help create opportunities for economic empowerment.

We meet once a month for a combined Business Meeting and Program and Social Meeting. Additional times may be scheduled for service projects or fundraisers.

Zonta Club of Geneva thanks our local members and community for continued interest and support of our mission.
